Why does this 1907 Gold Liberty Head Half Eagle coin belong in your collection?
The annually issued Liberty Head Gold Half Eagle series was a product of the U.S. Mint for seventy years, from 1839 until 1908. Christian Gobrecht, the Mint's third Chief Engraver, created the imagery for the coin. The distinctive personification of Liberty, which also appeared on the gold Eagle and the .50 Quarter Eagle coins simultaneously, is heavily influenced by Mr. Gobrecht's appreciation of neoclassic styled art.
This is a penultimate year of issue 1907 Liberty Head Half Eagle coin.
The bullion coin was struck at the Philadelphia Mint from 0.2419 Troy oz. of .900 fine gold.
The impressively graded coin measures 21.60 mm in diameter.
The face value coin is part of a 626,100 piece mintage.
Classic Symbols of Liberty and Freedom
Obverse: The obverse depicts Lady Liberty as a young woman facing left, encircled by a frame of thirteen stars honoring the original colonies. Her hair is gathered with a beaded ribbon at the back of her head, with a few loose tendrils trailing down her neck. Inscriptions include "LIBERTY" upon her coronet, with the year of issue "1907" located below.
Reverse: A heraldic eagle is centered on the reverse, clutching three arrows and an olive branch, with the tips of its wings extending into the surrounding inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA." The national motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" appears above the majestic creature, on a wind-blown banner. The coin's denomination is noted as "FIVE D" below. The lack of a Mint mark serves as confirmation that the coin is a Philadelphia Mint product.
