Scabbard is engraved “Fred. R. Hansen 22d Regt. Cadets. N.G.S.N.Y.” (NATIONAL GUARD STATE OF NEW YORK)
*****The 22nd Regiment (and 7th Regiment) of the NGSNY took part in the Funeral of President U.S. Grant in New York City on 8/8/1885. The 22nd and 7th Regiments fired the volleys in the salute when the the coffin was placed into the tomb.*****
There is no provenance that this sword or it’s then owner took part. But, hey, ya never know! LOL
Last name in the inscription is difficult to decipher. May be Marsen, Hansen, Hanson, Mansen, (I didn’t disturb the inscription to ascertain a definitive spelling) That can be done at the discretion of the buyer.

SCHNITZLER produced swords from 1864-1873, but were possibly available for a period later.
