DESCRIPTION:
A very scarce and very early
Boston, Massachusetts
wood box soda advertising crate.
Estate fresh and new to the marketplace, this
circa 1890's
Daniel Bernhard & Co.
soda manufacturing company,
once located at
9-11 Sarsfield, St. in Boston, MA,
has wonderful, stylized black ink stamped western font sidewall typography. The antique wood box crate hasn't been varnished or lacquered and still enjoys its original, naturally aged and oxidized wood finish and antique surfaces. It only has a few superficial, minor scuffs and abrasions, otherwise its finger joined corners, upright sidewalls and wood plank floor are all intact and don't suffer any material loss, fractures or repairs (old or new.) The short sidewalls also are stamped with graphic iconography, making the entire four walls of the crate featuring charcoal black ink stamping. The two short sidewalls feature cut-out, built-in side lifting handles. The inside of the box crate is dry and none of the exterior or interior surfaces are plagued by dark or light stains. Now
120 to 130 years old.
Early. Very rare. Only bottles by this now long defunct
Boston, Massachusetts
former soda manufacturer
are available on the market. It is very rare to find a wood crate soda advertising box produced by
Daniel Bernhard & Co.,
formerly of
9 to 11 Sarsfield Street in Boston, Massachusetts.
Not just your typical, 'metza-metza'
wood box advertising soda crate
but one imbued with
New England
history and the long-gone history of
Boston
and
Massachusetts'
manufacturing and early soda bottlers.
Possibly what your great grand-daddy drank when he was paid on his way home from work on a Friday afternoon. Extraordinary.
CONDITION:
Good to Very Good overall vintage condition.
